How to Overcome Laziness and Procrastination

You are very good at beating yourself in so many ways – most of which, of course, are when it comes to tasks you should or must do, right? Homework, cleaning your room, or maybe you just really need to start the new project you were so excited about! That is called laziness, or even procrastination. Guess what? Everybody feels it at any age! But not to worry, because I’m here with great advice on how to overcome laziness and procrastination and get things done.

1. Break it down.

Big jobs could be stressful, right? It was as if you were standing against a huge puzzle. A simple trick: break it into smaller bits. If it is a big job, break it down into smaller tasks, one at a time. It’s like completing a jigsaw piece by piece, which makes it a lot less intimidating.

2. Create a fun to-do list.

Who said the chores must be boring? Be creative and come up with a colorful to-do list. As each assignment is done, put a check on using stickers, drawings, or different colored pens. This makes your list interesting and exciting to check off!

3. Reward yourself.

Imagine doing something and getting a reward, for example, a snack or more time on your screen. Sounds cool, doesn’t it? Reward yourself with some little things after the completion of the task. This is one of the best motivators to start and keep doing something.

4. Get a buddy

Well, they say two is better than one. Get a friend, a sibling, or even a parent who will do it with you. You will get to motivate each other, and it won’t even seem like work.

5. Take small breaks.

Working all the time can make anybody tired and dull. So it’s fine that you are taking short breaks to free your mind. Maybe you could walk, eat, or even dance a bit to shake off your sluggishness. Just come back to work afterwards!

6. Turn off distractions.

Phones, TV, and video games are great entertainment but mostly provide too much distraction. Trying to turn them off or even move them to another room while working on your obligations may surprise you by how much faster you may get it done.

7. Just start.

Sometimes the hardest thing is just to start. Don’t bother yourself too much, just start with something small. Once you’ve started, it’s easy to keep going. You may even notice you’re already having fun!

8. Find out why it’s important.

If you truly are feeling stuck, you could ask yourself why this assignment needs doing at all. Perhaps it’s to help you learn, to keep your space clean, or to come up with something amazing. If you remember why, that can be a big energy and motivation booster.

Ways to beat lethargy and procrastination are to make it fun, split things down into smaller chunks, and treat yourself afterwards. Remember, everyone gets lethargy every now and then, but by using these methods, it’s always possible to overcome it and get things done. So, what are you waiting for?
