Ramadan is a sacred month filled with blessings and opportunities for spiritual growth. As the first ten days have passed, we have entered the second Ashra, which holds a special significance. These ten days, from the 10th to the 20th of Ramadan are known as the 2nd Ashra of Ramadan, the days of forgiveness (Ayyamu al-Maghfirah).
During this time, the focus shifts towards seeking Allah’s (SWT) forgiveness and increasing our acts of repentance. This is a time to reflect on our shortcomings and make a sincere effort to mend our ways.
Significance of 2nd Ashra of Ramadan
Here are some ways to make the most of the second Ashra:
- Increase Istighfar (Seeking Forgiveness): Say “Astaghfirullah” (I seek forgiveness from Allah) as often as possible. There are many beautiful supplications specifically for forgiveness that you can incorporate into your prayers and daily routine.
- Forgive Others: Holding onto grudges can hinder our own spiritual progress. Try to forgive those who have wronged you, just as you seek Allah’s forgiveness.
- Increase Good Deeds: Every good deed carries more weight during Ramadan, so intensify your efforts in charity, helping others, and acts of kindness.
- Recite Quran More: The Quran is a source of guidance and comfort. Make a dedicated effort to recite more Quran during this time.
- Night Prayers (Tahajud): The last third of the night is considered a time of special closeness to Allah. Try to wake up for Tahajud prayers and engage in supplication and reflection.
We open ourselves to Allah’s infinite mercy and forgiveness by devoting ourselves to these practices. Moreover, the second Ashra is a chance to cleanse our hearts, renew our intentions, and prepare ourselves for the blessings of Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Power) which is believed to fall within the last ten days.
May this Ramadan be a time of deep reflection, forgiveness, and spiritual growth for all Muslims.
